Weekend Update::December 30, 2013 – January 5, 2014

Even though I had an entire extra day in this week, it was one of the most uneventful weeks of the past 2 years.

On the 30th I hopped on a plane in Hong Kong bound for America. A plane ride that is to be the last of its kind for at least a year. I hope to continue to travel, but for reasons to be discussed elsewhere, it won’t be the same as what I’ve been doing for the last 2 years. So, this flight was bittersweet. I flew business class, with beautiful drinks & meals and a full layout bed. I even got a window seat, so I took advantage gazing out the window whenever it was light outside.

After a few hours getting reorganized in LAX, I made it to my other favorite airline and hopped on a Southwest flight to meet my mom in Phoenix where she whisked me away to Wickenburg. We stopped on the way home to see Grandma (she’s about to turn 95 later this month and she’s recently moved up here to be closer to Mom). It was great to see her, she looks wonderful and I had a nice fuzzy feeling when I saw her light up at the sight of me.

This week has mostly been filled with visiting Grandma and other friends of my parents. Along with some little walks in the desert, a quick stint on the back of a horse, playing with the dogs (Dad got a new puppy, Hank!), Mexican food, leading up to a 3 day fast that Mom & I are doing together. I can’t believe how little actual hunger I feel, but as you might guess, I’m still longing for food. There aren’t enough distractions to forget about it all together. Every once in a while I’ll feel a hunger pain, but it’s the idea of the pleasure of eating that’s the bigger challenge. It’s only 3 days, so I know that once it’s over, it will seem like nothing. And, I look forward to that moment. :)

The coming week appears to have even less in store, so it may be that uneventful days are simply going to be part of my future. The very near future at least. And to tell you the truth, I don’t mind one little bit. I’ve been terribly amiss at writing anything about my recent travels. I had an idea to write something at least once a week ages ago, but with the exception of little updates on Facebook here and there, I never followed through with writing. Now that we’re in a new year and I will perhaps be finding some kind of regular routine (part of me craves something like that, though most of me is terrified of such a thing) – I might be able to finally keep this promise to myself.
