Late afternoon dog walking
Landed safely after a bumpy flight. Made my way home to a happy dog. Dazed and confused from a week’s worth of medication. The quiet, still gray skies and the loud music in my iPod had a magical effect on the afternoon and Zoe and I just sort of floated through our neighborhood until the light started to dim.
Sometimes I walk along the same streets I’ve been traversing for the past 8 years and I’m amazed by things I think I’m seeing for the very first time. An odd looking house or an interesting porch. “How could I have missed this before?” I wonder. I think there are simply times when I’m wide awake and it becomes plainly clear how easy it is to float through the days with blinders on, but every once in a while things come into focus and everything seems new.
I can’t articulate the magic that was in the air on our walk tonight. You’ll have to take my word for it until I find a way to capture that electricity and bottle it up and send it along to share with all of you.

I love this photo. Just last week I spotted one of these trees, bare of leaves but festooned with brightly colored berries, and I was tempted to take a photo. I didn’t, and am really glad you did!
